Scarlett Ann? never hear of that artist tbh

She gained infamity since most games she was the lead artist of received the abondened tag before long, as artwork took far to long for most Devs and their Update scedules... and eventually people grew tired of her constantly same Characters changeing hair and skin color at most.

You sure this is because Scarlett Ann changed her drawings?
Scarlett Ann is known for constant interchangeable artwork with slight Variations.
It would be a first to hear about a change in style of her artwork... maybe it's those coartists copying her style in order to speed up development or the fact that they have been given more work to do since Scarlett Ann is still to slow or busy with other contracts... atleast that would fit the picture we had from any project Scarlett Ann was the lead artist from before.
she didn't change her style, but she constantly improved and professionalized it.

Can't say I buy that... even before ZR she had many contracts to gain experience and improve her work... yet for years there was no development on either her speed nor style.
I still believe that the improved details on extremeties (for example) is contributed to redraws of those new assistants copying her style while improving it.

with the amount of people who paid for her patreon, it should be no brainer for her to leave her office job and make drawing her fulltime job

This new update is another 'story' update which will focus on progressing the main storyline forward. This will be the last regular story update before the finale/ending update.
We're almost at the end? It barely feels like there's even been any real story.

I mean the main thing in the game is the survival element... 2nd comes Harem and base building and story is the least.
Yorna's Events are all the story we get... Sure there is some plot twists and some backstabbing, but it certainly won't win them the pulitzer

I need to play the first game to understand the story?
If you want to fully grasp the main story then I would say yes. It helps explain some of the characters in ZR2. But at this point in the story you can get away with not having played ZR1. But I suspect that eventually you will need to. But if you really want to get everything you need to play ZR1 & Town of Passion. But that game gives more context to ZR1. In fact all of Siren's games are connected in some way.
