I don't mean to insert myself into your convo, but I think this one falls under the "lost in translation" category.

I do not believe he's saying the power went out accidentally, I think he's meaning to say that the fact that the power was turned off, it 'accidentally' helped Derek actually find the camera by resetting it's default params to make it blink the red light like if it was just freshly installed with default setting where the red blinking light becomes visible to Derek.
