Just over a year ago, I noticed a lot of people who are trying to get into the manga but didn't know which chapters weren’t adapted in the anime. As a massive fan of the series who, back then, had recently binged the whole manga, I wondered if there was a clear guide for this on MAL. Since, back then, I couldn’t find an updated post with all the chapters adapted for both season 1 and season 2, I decided to post one.

That post was really well received and I'm glad I was able to help some people get into the manga easier. I would definitely recommend picking up this manga if you’re interested as it quickly became my favourite and, while the anime adaptation is absolutely amazing in its own right, i’d say the source material is a bit better in my opinion.

While the anime is definitely a must watch, I’d still recommend reading the manga in its entirety. However, if you haven't seen S3 yet, you could start at chapter 92 and even skip chapters 100-101 if you're really in a rush to read the post-S2 chapters. If you're reading this in the future and have finished season 3, I assume S3 will end AT LEAST around chapter 137, so you can start with chapter 138 I guess. This site allows you to read the manga for free online and even displays what is basically the same information that I'm sharing in this thread, so if you don't want to get the physical copies of the manga volumes, I recommend reading it there, especially since it's always up to date.

Anyway, here is a list of all adapted chapters in the Kaguya-sama Love is War anime adaptation as of now (S1 + S2 + S2 OVA + S3 Teaser + S3*). Since, at the time I'm writing this, Season 3 is still in progress, I will try to update this list as more episodes get released.

Let me know if I made any mistake. The initial thread I made a year ago was possible thanks to a couple of previous threads on this forum, so, again, props to those users. Also, big shoutout to whoever runs the Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai Fandom Wikia, that site really helped me finish this, as I wasn't exactly 100 % sure on all of these episodes.

Yeah dw ik it exists (I did figure out about that feature after I posted the initial thread a year ago tho ngl). Heck, i read the manga there every time a new chapter comes out, so I can definitely vouch that the site is really clear/well made. I just posted this here to make that info more accessible to people on MAL that are not aware of guya.moe.

I was waiting till this season finishes to start collecting the physical copies of the manga because of all the good things I hear from later chapters. This is very helpful and if you were to guess, which volume will the series finish off on. I was going to collect later volumes first and wait till series is over to start getting the rest. I know it may be difficult because the anime jumps around but if possible that would help. thanks goat

it's even written on MAL that it's 12 episodas.
"I think I wanted to attack something. Like betraying people or hurting people. And, well, it's not exactly nice, but hurting the readers too... In all honestly, I feel that's what I really wanted to do. For me, as a reader, when I think, "this manga will remain in my heart," it means, for example, it phenomenally hurt me: It's those kinds of experiences I'm after." - Pajime Hisayama (My favourite hurting author).

Hmm, I'd rather read the source first.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Maybe not. There were rumors of a 13th episode for this season by a leaker:
https://twitter.com/SugoiLITE/status/1515354312536621057
The final Blu-Ray/DVD set is also ¥1100 more expensive than the first 5 sets.

On the other hand, MAL seems convinced it's 12 episodes, and at least some TV stations have the 12th episode listed as the season finale:
https://cal.syoboi.jp/tid/6320

I'm ... hopeful, I guess? Chapters for next episode (S03E09) may shed some light, but the choice of chapters for episode 10 should make it pretty clear whether they're aiming for 12 or 13 episodes.

Yeah that leak is why I thought there was 13 episodes. MAL usually doesn’t confirm episode count until it’s sure tho, wow we prob getting 12 ep. i hope the leak is true tho bc i’d absolutely love 13 ep fr

Some notes:

Chapter 137 is 100% included this season. Two of the character visuals they used to promote the season are from that chapter, and there's at least one reference in the OP as well. It's an important wrap-up chapter, and there's no way it gets skipped.

It may be worth noting what chapter numbering you're using. There are 3 ways to number the chapters in use:
  • Chronological Release Order: The one you're using. This is the one used by the fan translations, and subsequently most of the (western) online fandom.
  • Magazine numbering: In Japan, the manga moved magazines after the first 10 chapters, and what would normally be chapter 11 was renumbered to chapter 1. Otherwise exactly the same as the chronological release order, just -10. (Except for the bonus chapters, which don't get an official number.) Never really seen this used among the English fandom.
  • Volume Order: For the volume releases, a few chapters were shuffled around in volumes 3-6. From chapter 52 onward it's 1:1 with the chronological release order. (Again, without the bonus chapters.) With the official English manga release now available on the Shonen Jump app, more people may start using this one.
This shouldn't matter for the current season, but you also included the first two season, so ...
(If you want, I can dig up the chapters that were rearranged for the volume release.)

Also, I'm not sure if you should include the "volume extras" "chapters" among the skipped chapter list - most content of those chapters is included as the interstitials at the end of each sketch in the anime, and they just clog up the list. These are: (spoilered for length)

Oh yeah that was a typo on my part, my bad. I meant 137, not 136.

Also yeah I didn't know whether I should include the volumes extra, I'll prob remove them then.

I've been looking through the chapters to try and see how the remaining episodes will be structured, and I can't figure out how they're going to adapt up to 136 by episode 12. I think it will be hard to cram everything in, even if there are 13 episodes. Chapters 121-136 all kind of intertwine with each other, so I don't know how they could skip 2 or 3 and still have a cohesive story. Anyone have any idea what the remaining 4 episodes will look like?

Chapters for next episode (S03E09) are already known: 121, 123 and 124.

If we're stuck with 12 episodes, and 3 chapters per episode, they'll have to skip 4 of the remaining 13 chapters. (137 included, because they're not stopping before that.)That's really tough, so I'm pretty hopeful for that 13th episode now.

If they really have to, 126 (Moeha) and 128 (First day winddown with whole council) could be skipped. Maybe the haunted house chapter (125) as well, just trim/change the last few pages of 124 and segue directly to 127 instead. Adapt the Ishigami/Tsubame interaction from that chapter as part of 124, and skip the rest. That's 4 chapters down, and we're in the clear.

So that'd be:
Episode 9: 121, 123, 124, part of 127
Episode 10: 129, 130, 131
Episode 11: 132, 133, 134
Episode 12: 135, 136, 137

Just one possibility, of course. I've seen 129 (balloons) suggested as a possible cut as well, but I think it's pretty much required after they adapted 118.

If we do get 13 episodes, it's a lot easier. They'd still have to squeeze or cut one chapter, but that shouldn't be too hard.

I wish after ep 12 A-1 announces a part 2 that might release during Fall or Winter so that everything is covered at once. Tbh I expected this season to be 24 eps long cause there's so much content to cover. Still fingers crossed!

i was hoping for this season to be a double cour so badly before it got announced, since they’d be able to adapt the ice queen and christmas arcs immediately after the festival arc. doesn’t seem to be the case sadly. there’s still a tiny bit of hope for there being 13 episodes instead of 12 tbf and they could always announce a second cour after the season like Komi-san did, so let’s hope we get lucky and that’s the case

I quickly glanced at the remaining chapters, and there is no way they can skip even a single chapter, not even the Moeha chapter which is although filleresque but has that heart necklace. I mean they could trim it a lot. But still that is only one chapter. 3 episodes can't cover until 137. They either should go for another episode or, preferably, have an hour long finale, and trim some of fluff from the manga here and there.

I just hope that there is no bullshit such as leaving this season at a cliffhanger or suddenly announcing a "Part 2".

Actually I would be happy if they announced part 2, it would mean we wouldn't have to wait 1-2 years for another season. I agree that there is so much to cram in 3 episodes, they will probably have to cut a lot out and just combine chapters to make it fit. For example I would be surprised if they animate the haunted house scene next week.

Excellent work!
I'm really curious to see how the last episodes of Season 3 will play out. As they've only adapted 3 chapters per episode, either we get a cliffhanger or we get a thirteenth episode, that can't be any other way. I don't know how reliable the leak, but they need one more episode for sure (unless episode 12 is double the length, it happens sometimes).

I see absolutely no reason to read the chapters that were adapted in anime. The only "flaw" is that it's not in the original order, but that doesn't break the flow of the story at all.

But many of the skipped chapters are must-see, so I definitely recommend people to read these. For that, this list is very useful!

It was obvious from the last episode, but yeah now its basically confirmed as they wont even trim 126 while doing once again the typical 3 chapter pacing.

Still
128, 129, 130
131, 132, 133
134, 135, 136, 137

That's also my guess. This would allow the rest of the season to be well-paced all while adapting the essential content of the dual confession school festival arc. Would love to see things turn out this way.

I absolutely loved the anime and I had the patience to wait for new seasons, not after the last one though. I started reading from 138 and after the whole ice kaguya and the christmas party stuff I realised there are some chapters that weren't adapted. I was about to make a list of chapters I should have a look at but then I found your S1 and S2 post which lead me to this. You are a gawd, I love you for this. Can't thank you enough. <3
