Tonight is the 3rd time I have made this recipe. We both have had sever episodes with tomato ketchup for year and years. Other than that it is perfect as is. What I changed. I subbed worchestershire for the ketchup in the recipe. I added just a couple tablespoons of bell pepper chopped, just because I like that little bit of color. I used 1 teaspoon plus as pinch of Kosher salt (I do hate when you say to taste, you tell me how you do it and I will add less if I want less salt) I use slightly less than a 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper. and I used 3 slices of bacon cut in half on the top to replace the ketchup mixture on the top. I do cook it on a large pan with a rack on the top, because we don't like it with all the fat sitting around it. This simple recipe is probably the best meatloaf recipe ever.
This turned out really good, but I strayed from the instructions. Leaving it here in case someone wants to do it my way. I was busy and I just looked for a basic recipe for ingredients. I don't have a bread machine so I put warm water plus sugar and yeast in my stand mixer. measured out my flour 2 cups, salt and stirred it together. left it for a while while I continued other task. Came back 10 minutes probably, stirred in my flour mixture with dough hook. Pretty fast, about 5 minutes. added olive oil and ccontinued beating until smooth, added the rest of the flour and beat again until dough came togther and no longer stuck to bowl. covered and let rest 20 minutes. Oiled my jelly roll pan and plopped the dough down. pushed it down stretched it to the edges. Let rest 12 minutes. pre baked in 400 degree oven 8 minutes. filled it to the edges with my cheeses, put in my other filling, sausage, onions, olives, mushrooms. drizzle marinara and butter and garlic. Baked again for 12 minutes. It was a totally different recipe. sigh. and I always hate when cooks do that but I want to save what I did so I can do it again on purpose this time.
we love fennel and usually grow it in our garden. I made this with a purchased fennel bulb and maybe it was a bit past its prime. We use more of the plant part most times and only gather the bulb when frost is near. We have only used the bulb to season fish dishes and etc. When I saw this recipe, I thought it would be perfect for us. Maybe it wasn't shredded finely enough but whatever it was tough and unpleasant feeling in your mouth. The raspberry is totally out of place. I like the idea and may work on it, but as is it's a no from us.
I made it pretty much exactly as described . I did forget the bay leaf, don't ask me why cause I love bay. I removed most of the seeds and next time I will leave More for the heat. We served it with street style corn tortilla, thin slices of cucumber and radishes and juice of lime. Some people added sour cream, I add Texas Pete's cause I like spicy. I have never ate at Chipolte's but this was close to how my El Salvador born son in law makes it except he uses a oven. Big hit at our house 100 percent.
my husband said he liked it but it was too dry. I made it exactly like recipe except that my cabbage was cooked in seasoned broth and hamburger was seasoned during browning and then about halfway through cooking I tried it and it was extremely dry as other reviews mentioned. I added about a (14 oz) half can of stewed tomatoes chopped with my submersible blender. Just poured it over the top and resumed cooking. It soaked up every bit of liquid and was still dry. I personally would like more cabbage. i like the idea but this recipe needs a lot of work.
I had high hopes for these cupcakes but they came off a little flat. I think with the amount of lime juice used you would need to add a little baking powder to offset the sourness of the limes. I would say 1 teaspoon and perhaps a little salt would bring out the lime flavor. The frosting is pretty much spot on and we loved it. I did add a little more lime juice to the frosting. Otherwise everything was done exactly as the recipe instructed.
I make this often for family gatherings. Usually I add less sugar but because my grapes were a little tart I added the amount listed in recipe tonight. It’s delicious.
I think oven was a little too hot. Crust had a burned taste even though it wasn’t burned just a little dark. Took it out after 1 hour. I’ll move on to another recipe
